Katrina Emmel is the Founder and president of KemmelCal Inc. With an MS in Biochemistry (WPI) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry (Northern Illinois University), Dr. Emmel started her career as an analytical chemist, performing routine LC-MS analysis in a clinical laboratory and then developing analytical methods for a dietary supplement and food manufacturer. She was involved in preparing the first Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) Notification for Enzyme Modified Steviol Glycosides on behalf of NOW Foods. As an independent consultant since 2013, Dr. Emmel has been involved in a number of GRAS evaluations as a chemist, technical writer, project manager, expert panelist, and chair of the expert panel. She has also served as an expert witness to support patent litigation activities for food ingredients.
